Food for the Community

Crossroads Community Hub has been providing food for the Community since the COVID-19 lockdown. In the lockdown year 2020 – 2021, 40,000 healthy soups and meals were cooked in our Charity Hub in Darvel and circulated to anyone in need in the community as identified by COVID Support groups, Vibrant Communities, and other community groups.

When Ayrshire Food Hub opened, cooking homemade meals for the community moved to Crossroads and we were able to respond to the increase in demand for meals from 80 to 300 each week when the cost of living crisis kicked in in Autumn 2022.

Funding for the Community meals originally came from the Scottish Government ‘Investing in Communities’ fund. When the finding ended in 2023, the ‘National Lottery Awards for All’ gave a grant to finance a cook and assistant for one day per week with a target of cooking, labelling and freezing 300 nourishing soups and meals for distribution to the community in our catchment area. We are delighted to share the news that following a short gap in provision, once staff have been recruited, we will be resuming cooking our winter warming homemade soups and meals at Ayrshire Food Hub. Our continued food provision has been made possible thanks to #National Lottery Players and an award from the National Lottery Community Fund.
